Hi Reader

I have in the past 2 months been providing individual and group coaching sessions for an organization going through major changes in its structure, systems and people. I was hired to use the ontological way of being framework, to help them along.

The ontological framework: summarizes, explores, expands and expresses your way of being, through language, emotions / moods and body. It is helping ex-co leaders, guide themselves and their teams through the major change that their organization is going through.

The change that the organization is going through, includes a lot of changes in positions, inter-departmental integrations, and in some cases, some positions being removed. As you can imagine, and as to be expected with any major change in any area of life, emotions are high, various moods are prevalent, communication and interaction is affected.

The leaders, who are also part of this change, are having to manage their own emotions, as well as of those of their teams. As leaders, our language, moods, emotions and way of being, affects and influences those around us.

Ontological and neuroscience based coaching

There are many parallels between ontological framework and neuroscience-based coaching, with the latter bringing in a lot of the scientific proof that allows us to deeply understand our mind and body unit. The mind is not separate from the body. It is one and the same thing.

What we say and think more often than not, influences the hormones and chemicals that the brain releases into our bodies, which affect our emotions and moods, and with that, the manner we behave and the habits we adopt relative to these emotions and moods.

The longer we are hung up on specific emotions and moods, the more that becomes our personality. So if you have ever taken a personality test, the results are what you have become over time. It does not necessarily mean that that is who you are. It is who you have become in interaction with your internal and external environment.

We have anything from 12-60+ thousand thoughts a day. A lot of them are in our subconscious. Because we have been thinking in a certain way for a long time, we have literally created neural pathways in our brain to align with that. Our habits and behaviors are influenced by the way these neural pathways have been created. We become that.

Reader, if you are not getting the results you are needing from your teams, departments and or business, here are questions for you to explore:

  1. What are the emotions I feel inside of me, more often than not?
  2. What is the prevailing mood that these feelings evoke or generate?
  3. What are my leadership / business intentions?
  4. How does my body support or betray my leadership / business intentions?
  5. What is the prevailing mood in my team?
  6. How can my presence shift to support my leadership / business intention?

Once you are clear on the above, make a commitment and a declaration as follows:

"I commit to ________ by ________ because I ________."

What you will achieve with this exercise is:

  1. A self-assessment of your emotions, moods, body and actions + how that affects your leadership / business intentions
  2. Defining your intentions with clarity
  3. Designing a way of being that is aligned to your intentions
  4. Displaying a way of being that is aligned with your declaration, assertion and commitment

Remember that:

Your subconscious is your programming. It takes up 85-95% of all that you do, mostly on automatic without you even realizing it. It is therefore imperative, if you are to lead yourselves and others to higher and deeper levels, to understand:

  1. How you are being
  2. If how you are being, is aligned to what you would like to become
  3. What changes you would need to make, to become aligned
  4. The resultant habits and behaviors, that will provide you with the outcomes you are looking forward to.

All this, is the work of conscious leaders, true visionaries and high performers: assessing where they are at in relation to their intentions, generating the language that will suit in with their intentions, and making declarations that will help them Design and Display a way of being suited to their intentions and grand visions.
